Whatever your political inclination, if you find yourself broadbrushing absolutes, check yourself. Ask yourself, Is that really true? And is that really the energy I want to put out there? For example, you might say, _________ (Republicans, liberals, goat-herders - fill in the blank with your favorite group to demonize) are __________ (greedy, self-centered, naive, smelly - pick your favorite pejorative description). When you broadbrush absolutes like that, youre probably making an indefensible comment (i.e., one that cant withstand the light of critical analysis) that does nothing to foster peace, but rather adds to the conflict. Is that really how you want to put your words to use?
