Whats on my mind?? First of all GOOD MORNING. I want to thank All my fans who have supported me for the last 10 years of Wake up with Elektra, indeed it has been a magical ride. As I look back to all the wonderful moments captured on my pink camera it warms my heart that every single picture was caught with so much love and happiness and joy. Thank you for all your feedback, good and bad which I have used as tools to hopefully become a better person. On another NOTE as a the woman behind Elektra there are alot of concerns i face when thinking about the future of sweet SIN MAATEN. We are facing are an election year and now we see all of our politicians slinging mud at one another and having a public battle. I ask myself have they forgotten how they got there? There are alot of people on our island that work hard for their bread and butter and then we see that our Parliament is PART TIME. I always wondered how they can do the peoples business FULL TIME if they dont show up for meetings, dont have quorum to deal with important issues that affect and have effect on the people, show disrespect to the population of our island. Have our elected officials forgotten that they took an oath? Well according to Article 56 which has the oath of the parliamentarians: The members of the Parliament shall make the following oath (declaration and promise) to the Governor before accepting their appointments: “I swear (declare) that I have neither given nor promised anything, nor shall I give or promise anything, howsoever described and under any pretext, to anyone whomsoever, either directly or indirectly, in connection with election as a member of the Parliament. I swear (promise) that I shall not accept any promise or gift, from anyone at all, either directly or indirectly, in order to do or refrain from doing anything in the course of this appointment. I swear (promise) allegiance to the King and the Constitution of the Kingdom, that I shall always help to uphold the Constitution of Sint Maarten and that I shall champion the interests of Sint Maarten to the best of my ability. So help me Almighty God (And I hereby make this declaration and promise)!” the Parliament represents the entire population of Sint Maarten this is also noted in Article 44 of our St. Maarten constitution. Where has the work ethic gone? Where has the respect gone? where has the sense of gratitude to the people gone? Where has the accountability gone and for sure where has the integrity gone? I thought these were the basic principles of GOOD governance of any country? But if our highest officials have no respect for these terms and used them loosely with no regards for the impact that it has on the MORAL,Values and spirit of pride and love for country of our people and citizens of St. Maarten. HOw do we proceed in the future? According to Albert Einstein WE CANNOT SOLVE OUR PROBLEMS WITH THE SAME THINKING WE USED WHEN WE CREATED THEM i have always pictured a parliament that no matter the colors you use to distinct yourselves in the elections when those 15 people sit around the table it should be for the greater good for the entire population which i know they try in the own UNIQUE way to do. Who feel it most are the people the ones that should be represented in the first place. NO color should matter. when those 15 people sit around that table....... But come with motions that will help the people and uplift the people. The tit for that and jumping form one party to a next should be fixed in a law and who has the power to change this? THE PARLIAMENT. We need a stable government to continue to develope our country as we are young and yes we are making mistakes as we go along but how many times should the people keep suffering of such mistakes? Something i think about is the following: we are all tax payers and pay the hefty salaries of our elected officials. Then we are Tax payers should hold our elelcted officials accountable to that salary or not? Do you think that we as citizens that work in the private sector would not suffer sanctions and consequences if we were to do not adhere to the rules and regulations of our establishments and employers?? Ofcourse we woud! Well after having read many headlines and after the first month of the year That is on my mind! HOw the country running , what does our future hold and how can we protect it and make it an EVEN BETTER paradise........ Love you
