What’s it to me? I’ve been asked as to why this PVT Bergdahl - TopicsExpress

What’s it to me? I’ve been asked as to why this PVT Bergdahl issue means so much to me, and I’ll tell y’all why. Many of the kids I raised as Soldiers were with the 3rd Battalion, 509th ABN. I affectionately call them “kids” because they were the first Soldiers I had the honor to raise and train from Privates to what they are now, Non-Commissioned Officers. I was blessed enough to get them right out of Airborne School, RIP and SOP-C, teach them what I knew and ultimately took them to war, and watched them flourish. After I left Alaska, many of them went on to re-deploy in harm’s way. This time to Afghanistan, minus SSG Martinez. When I began hearing about what they were going through, searching for this guy, I began going through my issues in feeling regret that I wasn’t there with them. My kids were in those mountains, on those ridges, on those roads and in those remote locations. My kids were fronting the bill for this guy. I saw how PVT Bergdahl’s actions were affecting them, and because of them I pray that he faces the music for his actions. Are 5 years in captivity enough to clean the slate? Some say yes. I say that Washington should ask the families of the fallen and the maimed. I’ll never let it rest.
