When CNN called earlier this week and told us we had been selected from hundreds of considered options to be one of the 15 fun and quirky things to do in America in 2015 and did they have permission to use some of our photos, needless to say, well, we bust a gut. They told us the story would be seen by millions and to expect a big spike in our website hits after it was released. We thought we would be the most excited about that, or the fact that we were the only hotel, or the fact that once we saw the story, the journalist used words like “love of whimsy and elegance” instead of just “quirky.” However, something else struck us much harder than any of that when we saw the story just now. The journalist used the word “spouses” in the article. Spouses. After 24 years together, it’s our first time to see that word in print.
