When I finally reached my town last night, I felt like I was in a different place. Trees were bent and broken, the land was barren as if a wildfire consumed all of them. Nipa hut houses were totally damaged. I was nervous as I was treading my way to my house (I wasnt even sure if I had any house left), it was so dark due to power outage and only the moonlight guided my way, I was feeling so nervous I wasnt ready for what I was about to see. But as I came nearer, I saw my home steadfast on its spot, there were very few damages, our tin roof remained intact as well as the glass windows. Broken trees and branches were all around the yard. The house was so dark I wasnt certain if there were any people inside. (I was thinking they could have evacuated or something). But then I called out to my mom and heard their voices in the kitchen. I breathed a sigh of relief. My family is safe. Thank God, really I thank God. It was as if nothing had happened. We enjoyed a candlelight dinner and talked all night about their experiences during the typhoon. Mom talked about the trees swaying and breaking, the ferocious growl of the wind, the fear, the hopelessness. Everything was a miracle. In one way or another one of those trees could have hit and damaged our home badly, but it was as if God was on top of the roof protecting our house. To those who have been texting, calling, and sending me PMs, I wanna express my deep gratitude for your concern and prayers regarding my familys situation in Carles.
