When I first got into healthy eating, I liked the concept of the cheat meal because it meant I didnt have to perfectly adhere to a healthful diet to reap the benefits of said diet. Now, though, Im critical of the language used to describe it, particularly because it frames food as a good vs. evil proposition, and I try to get away from thinking of food in those terms as much as I possibly can. This isnt to say that there isnt room for a discussion about the ethics of food, particularly the environmental, social, labor and animal welfare costs of it. Its more that I prefer not to think of the food itself (i.e., sinful chocolate, virtuous kale, etc.) in the language of morality, if that makes sense.
