When I heard Logans heavy footsteps this morning at 5:30, I knew he thought it was Christmas. I looked up at his face as he was coming down the stairs, eyes scanning the room, looking under the tree. Good morning, youre up early I said. Frissmiss Al? He says, trying to see around me. No bub, its not til tomorrow... I said, sad for him that days dont make sense. We did the countdown, remember? One more day. His eyes arent happy even though his ever-present smile is plastered on his sleepy face. Oh. He says. I know he expected to see gifts, and the empty tree must be such a let down. Are you disappointed? I ask, putting my arm around his shoulders. No. He says. Do you know what disappointed means? I ask. No. He says. It means youre let down, sad its not Christmas yet, and no presents are here. I explain. Stay home day? He wonders. Yup, we get to stay home. I tell him. He waves his hand toward the tree and says phhhhhsh Frissmiss. Blah. You stay home me Al. Happy of dat.
