When I lived in Michigan in the late 70s, I used to go to Toronto - TopicsExpress

When I lived in Michigan in the late 70s, I used to go to Toronto 3 or 4 times a year for long weekends--- I was surprised to see travel posters in the subway cars advertising winter trips to Cuba. I asked a Canadian who had gone a couple times--- she told me that it was much nicer than going to Fla. because the people were friendlier and less greedy, plus the accommodations were great and inexpensive. Cuba was a tourist destination for Americans in the 20s, 30s, 40s and 50s but we supported the corrupt and oppressive regime of Fulgencia Batista against the popular revolt of the Cuban people to protect American interests. The Soviets came along and supported the people. Once again, we were on the wrong side of history.
