When I prescribe a training plan I always include a rep tempo (speed at which you perform each rep) which is broken down into 4 parts - 1. Eccentric 2. Isometric 3. Concentric 4. Isometric Clients will often comment saying that they arent able to lift the same weight as usual when using my rep tempos. This is deliberate on my part. By slowing down the rep (especially in the negative/eccentric phase) we increase the amount of stress placed upon the muscle. As a result we can improve stimulation. Simple! Theres a time and place for slower reps and faster reps. Its all part of a comprehensive training plan! One thing all clients to report over time having used my training for sometime is that they are bigger, stronger and leaner which is the ultimate goal!
