When I was in school, at the height of the growth of a small town - TopicsExpress

When I was in school, at the height of the growth of a small town (Oswego schools 1993-1999) into a metropolis, the big referendum discussion was over building, bigger, better, more, faster, schools. Now, living in a small town, this is what we are faced with.... just got this email.... entitled, School Reform Bill to Eliminate School Funding. Our school district - compromised of 3 small schools... Serena High School, Sheridan Grade School, and Harding Middle School.... are about to lose over $800,000 dollars in school funding a year... which for lack of a better work, totally Sucks. Parents, Please read the following. We do not want to loose this funding. We urge you to contact your representative, Frank Mautino. Thank you, Mr. Randy Goodbred Dear Mr Marty Felesena, I am contacting your school district to bring awareness to a current Senate Bill that is pending legislation in the House of Representatives. SB16, the School Funding Reform Act of 2014, has already passed the Illinois Senate in May of 2014. Your senator Sue Rezin, voted NO to this bill. COMMUNITY UNIT SCH DIST 2 stands to lose $833,005, which translates to a loss of 85% of your state educational funds. Your $833,005 loss will be redistributed to other school districts throughout the state. I urge you and your district parents to contact your local legislator, Frank J. Mautino at patti76th@ivnet, to express your concern on this potential loss in educational funds. SB16 is currently being reviewed in the House and may be brought to vote this November. I ask that you: -Contact your local House Representative -Discuss this with your School Board -Inform and educate district parents -Work with your PTA/PTO’s to get the word out **Very few districts in your area that have communicated this matter the school district parents** (google search) For the past 7 years, with no increased funding from the state, Illinois school districts have experienced continued educational funding cuts and unfunded educational mandates. This bill is just shifting money without increasing public education funding, which Illinois already ranks 50th in the nation. (US Department of Education) Below is the list of school districts in LASALLE County that will be adversely affected by this bill. If this proposed senate bill passes in the House in November, there will be approximately 460 school districts in Illinois that will lose a percentage of state educational funding.
