When I was still earning my M.A. in History, I had many discussions with my primary thesis advisor, Dr. Strahorn. Since the topic of how people come to commit atrocities against other people is central to my thesis, I explained to him that either of the following two are sufficient conditions to get humans to do horrible things to other humans: 1) get those humans to believe that other humans arent real people; 2) get those humans to believe that they are not responsible for their actions (Adolf Eichmann gave the lamest excuse in all of history).
