When I was younger, I sat and watched by while others were bullied - TopicsExpress

When I was younger, I sat and watched by while others were bullied or teased. I sometimes stepped in, but mainly I was silent. Because silence was easy. As I have grown up, I am rarely one to stay silent when I see someone being singled out. It still haunts me though, the silence of my youth. Sometimes, the faces of the children I did not defend still come to my mind. I wonder if they made it past the teasing and the bullying of their youth to find their confidence and move beyond these shadows of their past. The image of the child who stands alone - on the playground, in the classroom, in the lunchroom - will always tug at my heart. I hope that this is never your child and I hope we teach our children how to reach out, not lash out, against children like this. masalachica/the-kids-who-stand-alone/
