When Im not drawing pretty pictures of horses, dogs, rock stars - TopicsExpress

When Im not drawing pretty pictures of horses, dogs, rock stars and friends kids for personal pleasure, as a favour to a loved one or for financial reward I find myself having to deal with all sorts of people in my regular job. And it will come as no surprise to those who I work with to hear me say that a large number of people I encounter are dignified individuals who find themselves the unwitting victims of circumstances beyond their control. And they accept their lot with good grace, an acceptance that bad things can and do happen to good people and the onus to accept what has happened, learn from it and get on with their lives lies with them. And them alone. Letting themselves become consumed by bitterness to the extent that it dictates their behaviour is not an option. These people will always prosper even if in only apparently insignificant ways. Unfortunately there are a great many who appear incapable of this. Who, for whatever combination of reasons, assume that blame always lies elsewhere. Self-absorbed types who lack the humility & introspective qualities to learn from their errors and adapt their behaviour so that they dont repeat their mistakes. Who stubbornly refuse to accept that maybe, just maybe they might do better to stop whining about what has happened, what dreadful misfortune theyve had, how theyve been the undeserving victim of some dreadfully unfair treatment, and take a look at themselves and think what did I do wrong and what can I do to prevent this happening to me again? I admire the former type. I pity the latter. Shit happens. Its how you deal with it that matters.
