When We Delay To Yield To The Pleading Voice Of The Holy Spirit We Put Ourselves In Danger Of Losing Eternal Life I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. (John 15:5) I Want Jesus In My Life - https://youtube/watch?v=ONfQsQzaJQs There are some of us who look at our “beauty” and believe that our life will last a long time. There are others who look at their family history and believe that they will live long. Some people believe that they will have time later to surrender every area of their lives to the total control of the Holy Spirit. They want to enjoy the pleasure of this world for a little before giving their hearts totally to the Lord. For some strange reason, we consistently believe that because we have been waking up every morning for all our life so far that tomorrow morning we will wake up again. This morning the Lord is reminding us through the book of James that our life is just a vapour. Its just a mist. We are here today and gone tomorrow. If we continue to put off the pleading of the Holy Spirit one day, like the five foolish virgin, its will be too late. In Heb. 3:15 we are reminded of the important of responding promptly to the voice of the Lord. The word of God said, “While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation.” Too many of us today continue to disobey the voice of the Lord. We continue to tell the Lord that we are too busy right now to take on His instruction. We continue to allow the glittering things of this world to pull us away from the Lord. We continue to allow the attractions of entertainment to continue to feed our carnal nature and as such we find the things of God boring. This morning the Lord is reminding us of the shortness of life. Every day of our lives the Holy Spirit is pleading with us to give up the things will so easily beset us. He wants us to run with patience the race that is set before us. Unless we look unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, eternity will not become a reality for us. I pray that we will not be like the five foolish virgins who wasted the precious time which the Lord gave to them with riotous living. Instead I pray that we will be like the five wise virgins who ensured that their lamps had the extra oil of the Holy Spirit which guaranteed their preparation. My friend; there is nothing in this world that is more important that securing eternal life. If everything that we do in life does not pull us closer to God is some way, our life will become like a mist in the morning. As soon as the rays of the sunlight of trials shine upon our misty life, we will vanish away like vapour. Only God can help us to make our lives become valuable. Time, laden with precious, golden opportunities for serving the Lord, is fast passing into eternity. Dear reader, are you improving these opportunities as they pass? You can not afford to slight them; for you must stand before the judgment seat of God, to answer for the deeds done in the body. Do your words cheer and encourage those who come to you for help and comfort? Does your influence strengthen those with whom you associate? Are your possessions faithfully given to the Lord? Consecrate yourself today to the Lords service. Remember how brief is the period of life allotted to you. Say not presumptuously, Today or tomorrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain. God may have different plans for you. You have no lease of life in which to carry out your own purposes. Life is but a vapor that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. You know not how soon your hand may lose its cunning, your step its firmness. Cast your care upon the Lord, and on no account allow the things of the world to separate you from him. Consecrate all you have and are to him. This is but your reasonable service. Do not delay; for there is peril in a moments delay. A few more years at the longest will be yours to work for the Master, and then the voice which you can not refuse to answer will be heard, saying, Give an account of thy stewardship. (Signs of the Times, January 21, 1897 – Ellen G. White) We are sojourners here, pilgrims and strangers on the earth; but we are fitting up for a better country, even a heavenly. We must now learn the language of that country, and prepare for the life that runs parallel with the life of God. Our life in this world is but a vapor, that vanisheth away. Then shall we devote all our powers to securing the treasures of earth for this little, short life-time, or shall we apply all our abilities in such a way that we may gain the future, immortal life? Christ says, Ye are bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are Gods. (Signs of the Times, August 4, 1890 – Ellen G. White) the endowment of his Spirit is for us; this we may confidently expect, and freely receive; for we can do nothing for the salvation of souls without this heavenly agency. Because of the shortness of human life, every event should be made an occasion for enriching souls with the truths of the gospel. As time is fast closing, we should keep before the mind the spirituality of the law, and the utter worthlessness of a formal, ceremonial obedience to the commandments, involved in a legal religion. The external principles of truth should be extolled. The holy and paternal character of God should be presented to men. Our obligation in our daily actions should be laid bare, that we may understand our relation to God and to each other; for we are to watch for souls as they who must give an account. We must present to the people, not the imaginations of men, not their schemes and conclusions but the grace of God in the gift of his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on him, should not perish, but have everlasting life. We are to lift up Jesus, that he may draw men unto himself. (General Conference Bulletin, October 1, 1896 – Ellen G. White)
