When a restaurant is given a Michelin star, it is a mark of quality and of great significance for the restaurant. Yet, did you know, that the Michelin star stems from the Michelin tire guide of later years. The idea being that restaurants were listed in the guide, to encourage people to drive long distances to eat there, causing them to wear out their Michelin tires, and creating a need to buy new ones.
