When my son was born, I noticed he would stop breathing in his sleep. He had severe sleep apnea. So at one years old, he had to have his first surgery. He had both his tonsils and adenoids removed. In sickle cell patients everything has to have a precautionary treatment either the day before, or days prior to their procedure. For KENDILL, he had to come in the night before, be placed on oxygen and have a blood transfusion or two. He had to be given Morphine at ONE. Any minor procedure can set on a full blown sickle cell crisis. Which can be very complicated and dangerous. Kendill stayed in PICU for several days and then released home. A normal patient would go home same day. #sicklecellawareness
