When people explain to me that the threat of climate change trumps wildlife protection and thus we need to give giant solar facilities a pass, I ask them how many incandescent light bulbs they own. I just bought four 10-watt, 800-lumen LED bulbs, as bright as 60-watt incandescent bulbs, for about $8.50 each. They work great: instantly bright, great color, 20-year life expectancy. If every household in Los Angeles replaced two frequently used 60-watt incandescent bulbs with these, the city would reduce its peak power consumption by 346.2 megawatts -- more than the maximum possible output of the proposed re-re-reconfigured Palen Solar Electric Generating System. If people arent willing to spend eight and a half bucks on a light bulb, why should I respect their opinion about which wildlife habitat needs to be paved to light their homes? [Ive edited this post to adjust the LED bulb price. See my comment below.]
