When police lathicharged doctors on duty - it was not seen as noble profession When medical students were dragged from hostel rooms in the middle of night - it was not seen as noble profession When political party goons roughed doctors up - it was not seen as noble profession But when doctors went on strike - suddenly it is noble profession and everyone asks how can doctors go on strike..... Only out patient clinics have been temporarily closed. Casualty and emergency departments are still running as normal. Media carries reports that mortalities per day during strike - 15 people over two days - but no report on cause of death - and no comparison with baseline mortality rate over the previous day - and the fact that emergency services are still functioning normally is still not reported When Mainstream media was not bothered when the lathi charge and mass arrests of doctors went on, and only woke up when the strike reaches the third and fourth day, how do you expect those in power to give any attention to this atrocity against doctors, when the media is itself not concerned. Is not this situation in this country which is leading to strike - who is to blame - the doctors conducting the strike - or the condition of the country where no one is bothered about the rights of the other person unless it affects them personally. The doctors were granted bail only after the strike started. Suppose there was no strike, they will still be in jail... Even now, the cases have not been withdrawn. Just imagine, if the cases are not withdrawn, they will have to appear in that court for the rest of their lives (considering the speed of disposal of cases in India). They cannot go back to their home states to serve their people, they have to declare that there is a criminal case against them in every document. They are disqualified for IPS or IAS exams. Is this the way our nation is going to treat our meritorious students - the so called best of the best who gain entry into medical college with blood, sweat and tears. Where is our nation going??
