When we were kids, we always had bows and arrows. Not for hunting, - TopicsExpress

When we were kids, we always had bows and arrows. Not for hunting, just for practice back then. Dad had a rifle and we used it once in a while. I remember back when there was actually a bounty on woodchucks. you could get 75¢ for a set of ears at the town hall. I remember one day that dad laid down on the front lawn and fired across the field over the road. There was a woodchuck on the stones of the hedgerow on the other side of the field. He just gave a bit of a filbert and laid there. We werent sure if he was really hit. We hiked over and found him … He was split in two! A few years later, we had a woodchuck making a mess of our gardens. One afternoon I looked out the back window and saw dad in a full sprint with my bow nearly bent double on the heals of a woodchuck that had just dug up the garden!. He pinned that critter to the ground while at a full run! My brother Eric and I would play with the bow and arrows. We would shoot them into the sky sometimes and then run like hell to dodge them when they fell. One day an arrow fell as we watched in horror into the pool! The pool was covered and there was ice on top so, fortunately it didnt make a hole in the liner! The look on dads face though when he uncovered the pool though …. That put a hole in my head!!
