When working for strength gains its important to remember that - TopicsExpress

When working for strength gains its important to remember that progress is not always linear. In training for powerlifting, over the last 9 months almost, I have had weeks where I saw progress every session. Ive also had weeks where nothing felt all that great, and Ive also had weeks where I actually felt like I was regressing instead of progressing. The most important thing I learned through all of this is the fact that everything eventually turns back around as long as you keep your head on straight, stay consistent in your training, do the work, and trust in the process. After what felt like some serious setbacks in my deadlift back in September, my deadlift is now once again feeling spot on. For quite a while I felt like my bench press was never going to get past 100lbs. Now Im benching 110 with no problem and Im benching 100 for multiple reps and multiple sets. My squat which has jumped in the past is now in the stalling shift. It feels okay but not great. But that doesnt bother me. Because I know its just another phase that wont last forever. Patience is a really important part of getting stronger. In my opinion. When you arent feeling like you are progressing fast enough, keep your head on straight. Stick with your training program. Listen to your coach, if you have one. And learn to enjoy the whole process. Be in it for the long haul. ~j-trim realfitlife.net
