When you put out your rubbish, do you have separate bins for recycling paper, cans, bottles and plastic? And do you care what actually happens to all that waste? Im James Menendez and on Newshour were speaking to journalist Adam Minter, whos been investigating the global trade in junk. He says its cheaper to ship trash from Los Angeles to Shanghai than to process at home and the rest of the worlds waste is now one of Chinas biggest sources of raw materials. The worst recycling is still better than the best mining, Minter says. So does it really make economic and environmental sense to send waste halfway around the world?
