When you read the comments to this news story you understand why teachers are paid so poorly in Oklahoma. They are not valued by many. Some see teachers as liberal union activists receiving some sort of governmental welfare by being on the payroll and babysitting kids. It is an idiotic view of what is likely the most important service the state provides. Embarrassing to say the least. Every year there is some nut who says if these teachers really cared they would be in the classroom today instead of at the capitol. For those who think that, might I say if you really cared wouldnt you have volunteered to take a teachers place and been on the capitol steps to champion the cause of education?
