When you sit down to write a blog post, how often (on average) would you say you stop writing and click around to something thats not related to the blog post youre writing. In other words, how often do you get distracted while writing a blog post? Ive been keeping track for the last month, and while writing a blog post, I discovered that I click around 25-30 times, which is nuts. I usually get right back into it, but even then I know that these mini distractions are costing me big time. Theres the time to get back to where you were mentally, and then theres that one time that you click around to Facebook or Twitter or YouTube, and get down a worm hole you find yourself in 30 minutes later. Analyzing this more, I found that I always click around when I get to a point in my post where I dont know exactly what Im going to write - where I have to think for a bit or something is difficult. Clicking away is our way (or my way, at least), that I can avoid doing something I know is going to take some brainpower to do, and my reaction is to immediately get back into something thats comfortable. Something that makes me feel good and get away from those tougher things. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, I get immediate satisfaction while Im there and its truly an addiction. To help, Ive been scheduling my time to be on those platforms, and the meditation Ive been doing lately is also helping me focus when Im writing as well. Maybe I just have a weak mind and you dont need to go to this extreme to make it work, but Im BIG on optimization right now (if you couldnt tell), and Im wondering if you feel the same way as me, and what youre doing (if anything) to block those distractions and moments of I need something Im used to. So back to the original question - just take a guess, how many times while you write a blog post do you click away? Please expand on that in the comments as well.
