When you vote, make sure they have your info right. Today I gave the guy my name and address and he repeated it back to me. Then he made a little Ooh, it jumped on me comment as he looked at the screen. He keeps going and says, Oh, I guess you never bothered to change your name from Hardesty after you married? as hes putting my card into the slot on the computer. I say no, Ive never been named Hardesty in my life. You just repeated my name back to me a second ago. You dont live at XXX Postal Road? Me, Uh, no I just gave you my address and it was in Centreville. Him, Oh, this thing is jumping on me So prior to him sliding that card into the computer I made him double check everything on his screen back to me because I didnt want to take the place of someone named Hardesty that lived up on the Island. But you know what? All this would have been WAY easier for the guy IF I had been REQUIRED to hand him a drivers license or other photo ID to double check with his database. Rather than him relying on his memory - which, Im sure, can get a bit overwhelming when youve got droves of people coming in to vote all day. Moral of the story? Make sure they have YOU up on the screen before they put that card into the slot!
