Whenever we see the word Zion in Scripture, we need to stop and - TopicsExpress

Whenever we see the word Zion in Scripture, we need to stop and recognize a couple of things. First, Zion refers to the actual City of Jerusalem. Second, Zion is used to place a very specific emphasis on the city. It doesnt really speak of Jerusalems physical or political relevance in the world. Rather, Zion represents the supernatural and sacred significance it had as the dwelling place of God. And its with that same spirit of understanding that the Psalmist declares the beauty and greatness of the Sacred City. The beauty and greatness of Jerusalem was never in her mighty walls, nor in her towers or ramparts, nor in her great gates, nor in the mighty mountains or high hills she was built on. It wasnt in her construction or fortifications. No, the beauty and greatness of Jerusalem was in the presence of God. The fact that He dwelt there, in the midst of the Temple, made this city sacred. Hes the One who made it Zion. The same is true of us. Its the indwelling presence of Gods Spirit that brings beauty and greatness to our lives. Apart from Him, were just another city in the landscape of life. But when we open our hearts and invite the living God to take up residence in our hearts, we become something special and sacred. Great King, You bring beauty and greatness into our lives as You dwell in us by Your Spirit. May we remember this, especially when we question our value and significance. When we open our hearts and invite the living God to take up residence in our hearts, we become something special and sacred. Think about it... What does this passage reveal to me about God? What does this passage reveal to me about myself? Based on this, what changes do I need to make? What is my prayer for today?
