Where I grew up from, there was ONLY ONE BUS as a means of public transport. This only bus served 5 districts. It was the only means to reach the only big hospital in Rukungiri district. All pregnant mothers had to converge under a big (karitunsi) tree and wait for its return from mbarara town at 4:00pm if they wanted to deliver in kisiizi hospital. You had no option if you got into labour in the night, through the day or after 4:00pm but to give birth at home. most babies died at birth if nurse Aunt Mary(the only nurse on the village) didnt attend to you. Sometimes she couldnt reach the mothers that lived in far away villages.most mothers lost their lives, babies died at birth or just a day after they were born.Am one of those lucky children to be born in those times and alive today to say that no child is born to die and no mother should die giving life. This situation is still the same in some parts of uganda in this time and era. Most children arent lucky enough to see the next day after birth.Raise your voices, this situation must change. We need to reduce mortality rate.
