Where Pride and Stupidity unite, wrote Jane Austen, there can be no dissimulation worthy of notice. I have watched with disdain two divides in our National Association of Nigerian Students Joint Campus Committee,Ondo axis.I observe first,a set of stakeholders too inept to guide;second,a set of executives too proud to be guided. I thereby wish, for record sake,to distance my person from the recent uniformity of stupidity on parade in the axis. The juvenile display of humbuggery that claimed to have ushered in a new set of executives for the axis on the 3rd of October,2014 is a sham and a shame. For starters, the State is divided into three Senatorial districts;North,Central and South. And we have five primary schools recognized by NANS from time immemorial. They are; Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba-Akoko(AAUA) Rufus Giwa Polytechnic Owo (RUGIPOL) Federal College of Agriculture Akure (FECCA) Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) and Adeyemi College of Education,Ondo (ACE) . I deliberately omitted Ondo State University of Technology Okitipupa . It was accredited for the first time at the recently concluded NANS national convention in Asaba. I have since reliably gathered that the school has no form of Students unionism on ground for now. Now,it is immoral for any worthy students leader in the state to deny or show insensitivity to the intricacies governing the polarization of these schools and districts I have enumerated above. In fact,it borders on inequity, unfairness and injustice if under any guise,a certain senatorial district or school as the case might warrant, decidedly overlords herself on other districts or schools. The continued and deliberate southernization of Ondo state students unionism by certain entities masquerading as sympathetic stakeholders is glaring and unbecoming. And the complicity and conformity of the factional leadership of the axis under Com. Adewumi Rufai in this unholy alliance is worrisome,to put it mildly. I refrain from dwelling too much on the uneven senatorial spread lest I am labelled an ethnic bigot. I am an intellectual and I am not afraid to admit so.I refuse to subject myself to the whims of another human being out of sympathy for their misfortune. My sympathies are steadfastly in tandem with my virtues of equity, fairness and justice.Simply put, common sense. It was this exemplary common sense that our stakeholders heretofore displayed when Suffrage was extended to the secondary schools in the state. These schools are not recognised at the level of National convention. They are;School of Cooperative Societies.School of Midwifery.School of Nursing.School of Health technology. Now this is an admirable show of equity, justice and fairness. But we seemed to have lost this our guiding common sense Common sense ought to tell us that if four out of the five primary schools in the state have produced and rotated the JCC Chairmanship among them in the last seven years or more, the only school in the ommision should be given a fair chance to produce the next Chairman of NAN JCC,Ondo axis.Any argument untoward is selfish. The gaping exclusion of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic Owo from the equation of JCC Chair in our axis in almost a decade smacks a lack of common sense among us. I shall not be part of any arrangement that guarantees that Three intellectuals would succumb to the gullibility of Six of their opposite kind in a gathering of Nine. Atimes one is tempted to think it is high time the State Government put an end to this raging madness by appointing a substantial Special Assistant to the Governor on Students Affairs. If our states stakeholders would not gather their acts together and proffer a way forward from this brazen uncommon sense, Somebody should and now! Till such time,I remain distanced.
