Where is the Mercy? . . Surely, goodness and mercy, shall follow - TopicsExpress

Where is the Mercy? . . Surely, goodness and mercy, shall follow me, all the days of my life. Has it? What if you could only receive mercy, if youve given it. Blessed are the merciful; they will get it. I challenge every person to search out just how many times the word mercy is used in the Bible. I think you will be truly surprised; and where would we be without it. Some may not think that God was merciful to Adam and Eve, when they were expelled from the Garden. His wrath could have consumed them. There is an expression in the KJV, where it talks about the new man, and putting on . . . bowels of mercy. Thats a strange earthy expression in todays language, but I think it served its purpose. I think it means, a deep thing; something that has great depth; like a deep well of mercy. I really dont think people who call themselves Christians, should be unkind and harsh to one another. Do we know, that the apostles, spoke in more than one place, about being tenderhearted toward one another; kind and gentle. Who came up with the idea, that if someone among us did not live up to all of our expectations, we should all jump them, and ridicule them and wag our finger in their face. Where did all of this condemning behavior come from. Its not of Christ, and its certainly not of the Holy Spirit. Im not one to use that quote, you reap what you sow. I think the most reaping that is done in this particular chapter, has to do with the first verse. But there is indeed a law of getting back, what you give out. Or can we also say, not getting what we havent given out; like showing tender mercy to those who need it so much. Even mercy on people whove failed; even the weak ones. We should have mercy on others, in the same manner and to the same degree, that God has had mercy on us. I think one of the problems with those who are self-righteous, is that they dont think they have committed any real big sins. Either they were born saved, or they have been really sheltered all of their life. Our entire nature was supposed to change when we were born again; including the way we treat people, and especially how we treat those of the household of faith. Our track record of being critical, judgmental and condemning, precedes some of us; the world knows us. This world needs mercy today. They are already condemned; I believe we heard that spoken somewhere. I need mercy; as that old song says, Ive got a long way to go, to be like the Lord. You need mercy too; if not today, I dare say, that somewhere down the road, your turn will come. Its clear to me, that if we do not have mercy on those around us who have slipped, or somehow made an error, we are going to fall into error also. Its a reality I have lived; my harshness to others, came back full time to haunt me. Being merciful to those in need, is not an option; its a requirement. We all need mercy; everyday; we just do. What if God, withheld it, from us.
