Whether you come from a traditional gym or no gym at all, the leaps and bounds that you will make at CrossFit are astounding. This is Gregs CrossFit story: I started CrossFit at Forged Training Centers in November 2013 and my only regret is I wished I would have started earlier. Prior to joining, I was always passionate about going to the gym; And by gym, I mean the place where everyone is doing bicep curls in the squat rack, grunting half reps on the leg press and wearing cut off t-shirts. I did that for several years and frankly, I got bored. Everyone just wanted to get “bigger” vs. becoming stronger. The first day of CrossFit I became addicted. The teamwork between athletes and the passion from the coaching staff was by far the most welcoming experience I have ever had. Even though there may have been a large class of 12-15 people, the coach would always find time to tailor my technique which would instantly make me more proficient at whatever lift or skill we were training. It was very humbling to see guys that were half my size lifting twice the weight I was. I started to get better every day. I would hate to miss even one class because it was always a WOD or strength set that I wanted/needed to work on. Diet and cardio were and are the hardest things for me to deal with. I absolutely despise running. I think it is the most boring exercise to do for cardio. With the WOD, you are working on a skill, strength and endurance all at once. The friendly competition drives me to do the best of my ability. When I would work out by myself or go on a run, I would always think to myself, “eh, that’s prolly good enough” and stop. Having a room full of people, that are just as passionate about a program as you are, is motivation to complete something that seems near impossible. And when it’s over, we all high-five each other because we all went through it together and pushed each other to do better. A year later and I am just as excited about CrossFit as I was after my first day. My Olympic lifting is improving every week and my cardio is getting better and better. My physique and posture is better than it has ever been. I am healthier than ever. My only regret doing CrossFit is that I didn’t start earlier. - Greg Wilkins
