While I think we could all stand to respect each others religious - TopicsExpress

While I think we could all stand to respect each others religious beliefs a bit more, or vice versa their lack thereof, I think there should be some limits as far as how much can be tolerated. This is one of those points. If this bill passes it could Open the door to marriage as young as nine, essentially lets a man be able to force himself on his wife any time he wants without consent, confine his wife to his house, restrict custody rights and allow the man to have as many wives as he wants to do this too. As well, the only person who has a right to turn down a marriage proposal is the father of the bride being proposed too. This is disgusting and morally abhorrent. No human being should be forced into marriage at such a young age. Now I know that me posting something about this isnt going to exactly change the mind of lawmakers or religious fundamentalists in Iraq. In fact I highly doubt anyone in Iraq will ever see this post. However this is an example of what kind of shit can go wrong when you mix religious beliefs and politics together. No human being should have the kind of power over another human being that they are proposing in this bill. Again, I have no problem with faith or belief. Its okay to believe in something, and its okay to live a lifestyle thats restrictive and that controls yourself. But to force that system of belief on someone is a moral crime in my opinion, and this type of law should no longer be tolerated in the modern world. https://youtube/watch?v=kmeS0uMdUOg
