While Ursula means little bear in Latin, this Ursula is more of a Goldilocks than a grizzly! This 18-month-old Dachshund mix arrived at the Sampson County Animal Shelter in North Carolina on April 2nd. Ursula was surrendered by her owner. It is suspected that she was bred and then surrendered. For several weeks this sweet little dog was left waiting for help to make it safely out of the shelter. Her situation was made all the more dire because of her heartworm positive status. On April 22nd, RADAR provided an offer to assist with the heartworm treatment costs for Ursula as an incentive for a rescue to take her. Thanks to the collaborative life-saving efforts of Leslie Lewis with the Sampson County Friends For Animals and Laura Roberts with Road Home Rescue in North Carolina, a rescue was found for Ursula! On April 30th, Animal Sanctuary Society in New Jersey agreed to take her! Ursula had her heartworm treatment done on May 6th. Leslie and Laura had this to share with us about Ursula: She is enjoying the comfy cushions of ottomans and sofas after enduring a month of cement at the shelter! Her temporary foster family reports Ursula is a delight! Shes calm, gentle and attentive. Shes good around other dogs. Shes housebroken and is easy to walk. She also enjoys being petted, and spoiled!
