While driving past some friends house the other day, I saw a woman standing outside the closed front door. She seemed to be carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders with no one beside her to help her. I pulled the car over and went to her and asked how she was doing. She walked over to me and said she felt so empty inside because a part of her was gone. I introduced myself and asked if I could give her a hug and she nodded that I could. I hoped that the warmth of my hug would ease the crushing weight of her pain, but I knew it couldnt. Why? Because she told me that when she had given birth to her children, someone else had also experienced her contractions. This same individual had a special connection with her and was always there, not necessarily in person, but in spirit. Now that special connection she had always known was broken and she truly was alone, really alone for the first time in her life. The death of her identical twin sister had left her feeling so empty and all I could do was hug her...not enough to fill that void...nothing will ever fill that void. I cried when I got back in the car and can still feel her pain. So any twins out there at odds with each other, get it together ASAP! Because hugs from me can never mend the connection that death severs!
