While some might say IMAGE ISNT EVERYTHING...the vanity in us - TopicsExpress

While some might say IMAGE ISNT EVERYTHING...the vanity in us suggests otherwise. At first glance it seems like an arrogant statement, I admit. But delve into a little deeper and youll see just how powerful that little statement is. “If you look good, you feel good.” Taken at face value, we always assume that simply putting on a fun new outfit, or getting a hair cut can make us look good, and therefore feel good. This in turn helps us to act more confidently. I whole heartedly believe this can be directly translated into health and fitness. The confidence that comes with feeling good subconsciously may help you make better decisions with food choices and whether or not to go or skip the gym. I also believe that most negative behaviors are acted upon when you feel down and out - eating the whole gallon of ice cream rarely happens when youre feeling confident. Its inevitable that at some point in your day/week/month/year that youll feel down. And I also think that THAT is not the issue at hand. The problem is not being able to recognize it and if and when you do- what do you do about it? While it may be difficult to make good decisions in that state of mind...its important to be able to stay focused and use a few tactics to pull you through. Here are a tip to help: Dont skip your workout. Studies show that exercise increases feel good hormones. Exercise is usually the first thing to go when people feel bummed out. Chances are if you stop exercising you also may pick up some unhealthy eating habits. Now what happens is you feel 3x as guilty. So, hit the gym even for a light workout. Youll maintain a good habit and probably start feeling better in the process. Plus, socializing with friends who have a common interest will also lift your spirits. So, wear the good sneakers, put on the new gym attire and make a new playlist- looking good just might mean improved health! Sounds right to me!
