While we are consumed by the ugly headlines about the atrocities - TopicsExpress

While we are consumed by the ugly headlines about the atrocities at Sayreville High School, we should be paying attention to this story, instead. Two weeks ago, 16 year old Tom Cutinella died after an accidental hit during his high school football game. Their next game was scheduled to be a Wyandanch, but in a move of total class, the Wyandanch A.D. and coach, recognizing the significance of the game, which was to be played on their field, offered to move the game to Shoreham-Wading River, thereby giving up the proceeds of concession sales, ticket sales and all the other money they might have made having a home game. They felt the Shoreham-Wading team needed to be home to honor their fallen teammate, who -- by all accounts -- was an amazing kid. The game was played this past Saturday. Even more amazing was what happened during that game. Up 48-0 over Wyandanch late in the 4th quarter, the quarterback, who was the holder for the point after, took the snap and spiked the ball, leaving the score 48-0. They scored again in the final seconds of the game, and again, he took the snap for the point-after and spiked the ball, making the final score 54-0. Tom Cutinella wore #54.
