Who in this country cares for the resort employees? I am one of the people who is working in the tourism industry from 2001.I had seen days when we come to Male on our off-days, we were frowned at and also referred by RESORT BOYS. Then came the era of foreign staff which I guess will outnumber Maldivians in senior management. Hence, we the Maldivians are still weeping silently for being treated very inferior to that foreign staff who most often gets his training by a local. All the foreign owned resorts have this problem of discriminating Maldivians and treating us like dogs in our own land. My question is where are those MPs who pretend to be good actors on television? Why cant they come to us and find out our problems? I do not think that we can go for an strike. We can not afford to let the guests feel that they are in the wrong place. I suggest that we talk to our so called FAT SALARIED MPs to use whatever they have in their heads wisely and help us. For this lets choose 5 or 10 representatives from each Atoll who will go and speak with these MPs.These representatives should not necessarily be resort employees based in resorts. They can be well-wishers, they can be airport reps, they can even be tour operators or they can even be foot ball players. Whatever it is, it high time that we become more active rather than gossiping or hiding behind the walls. Its our country, its our island and its our resort and by all means we have our stake there.
