Who inspires you, keeps you honest and focused on what you value? - TopicsExpress

Who inspires you, keeps you honest and focused on what you value? I am fortunate to have two sons who do just that for me, routinely. My boys couldnt be more opposite. They dont look alike although they both have great smiles! Their interests are very different, their chosen paths unique to their talents and passions. What they share is a dedication to following their heart, pursuing a life which honors who they are at their core, and commitment to hard work to reach their goals. My older son enlisted in the Navy a year after graduating from high school, which I didnt see coming and was a hard pill for me to swallow. In 2005 the world felt very turbulent and his choice to engage in military service scared me. He served five years, admirably, including three deployments. He completed his service and spent a year transitioning to civilian life, which ultimately led him to attend Georgetown University for his bachelors degree. His hard work has been rewarded with numerous academic achievements, all of which served him well when he recently applied to Georgetown Law School. My sons werent able to spend a lot of time together the five years Harrison was serving in the Navy. As a family we never knew when wed get to see him, when he might be able to join us for holidays. Its been beautiful to watch them get to know one another as young men since Harrison completed his tour of duty. They have been diligent about reconnecting and rediscovering their brotherly bond. Thats why it was so wonderful that this past weekend, while they were together for a cousins bachelor party, Harrison learned that he has been accepted to Georgetown Law School. They were able to share this milestone, something that hasnt happened a lot. Their support of one another, acceptance of completely different tracks, few shared passions, is what inspires me. I watch them engage, struggle at times to fully understand one another and accept one another, reflects a competency I admire. And that is the best mothers day gift I could ever get! They keep me humble, honest and grateful. Who does that for you? When is the last time you told them, thanked them? Thank you Harrison and Andrew, I love you.
