Who the heck am I? Some people are just hearing about me for the first time so heres 10 TOP THINGS ABOUT DREDA: 1. Dreda is pronounced Dreeda, long vowel ee sound in the middle. Its an Irish name, a variation on Deidre. Also my grandmothers name. 2. Grew up on a housing estate in the east end, one street up from Cable Street and a ten min walk to the Tower of London. 3. My first book Running Hot, won the Crime Writers Associations John Creasey Dagger for best first time crime fiction book in 2005, the first time a Black British writer has won it! Hooray!! 4. My family are from the Caribbean island of Grenada. 5. My 3rd book, Geezer Girls, was one of 20 books chosen for World Book Night UK this year. 6. Nokia and Lady Geek voted me one of the 50 Remarkable Women in Britain in 2012. 7. Im a trustee at The National Youth Arts Trust. The Trust has a gob-smacking list of patrons, including Ewan McGregor, Hugh Bonneville, Grayson Perry, Arlene Phillips and so many more. 8. Do heaps of broadcasting on Radio and telly, especially Radio 4 Front Row and reviewing the newspaper headlines on BBC News Channel. 9. I write for The Guardian every now and again. 10.
