Here are a couple pictures to show why it is better to crop in the camera, than to crop later on the computer. In these side-by-side comparisons, the pictures on the left were cropped on the computer. The pictures on the right were cropped in the camera by using a telephoto lens. If you do the math you will see that it is obvious why. A 15 mega-pixel camera was used to take both pictures. The sharp picture on the right used all 15 mega-pixels. The blurry picture on the left was reduced to less than 5 mega-pixels after it was cropped in the computer. So what is the lesson here? Pixels are precious. DON’T throw them away!
