Why I am leaving the Republican party. For years I have - TopicsExpress

Why I am leaving the Republican party. For years I have believed in limited government. The excesses of federal power are ubiquitous and manifest. Please do not paint this with a straw man argument - thinking I do not believe in any central government. That would be anarchy. I believe the founders of this Republic implemented a wonderful framework to keep governmental power vested in the citizens. However, this system has evolved into an oligarchy which is nearly uncomprehensible in its size. The immense power of the federal government is kept within a relatively small number of people. Quite often these people are part of dynastic families, passing this power from generation to generation. Additionally the Republican party has typically been the party of business and capitalism. While these two concepts are wonderful on their own, with our current governement, they have evolved into crony capitalism which permeates the culture of the this oligarchy. Sadly many of my Democrat friends have come to realize that their party has embraced the same crony capitalism they have fought against for decades. Therefore I will not be joining the Democrat party. I will search for and support processes which are designed to break up this oligarchy. Currently I believe an amendment to the constitution limiting congressional terms is a good first step. We cannot rely upon senators and congressional representatives to proceed with such a solution for obvious reasons. The elegance of our constitution provides a method of by-passing congress using article 5 to get this done. I guess this would be my New Year resolution.
