Why Re-Roof? A very popular service provided by Air Roofing is the removal of old and heavy roof tiles, old corrugated iron sheeting or asbestos. These are then replaced with light weight Corrugated Zincalume or Colorbond steel sheeting. Heavy roof tiles can stress the walls of homes with their excess weight. Many older homes have large flat tile verandahs or rear sleep outs. These flat tiled areas are often enclosed as rooms and have severe leakage problems. Corrugated steel can be laid in long lengths, at a low pitch, to prevent leaking. Within a period of a few days your old roof can be completely removed, taken off site and disposed of. Corrugated Zincalume or Colorbond fixed with Tek screws then form a brand new lightweight roof. The re-roofing process includes replacing the existing tile battens with new steel battens, which help in taking out waves and dips in the existing tile roof. Gutters and downpipes can be replaced at the same time. An existing cement tile roof is approximately 15-20 times heavier than a new Colorbond roof. Existing homes may have between 10 and 30 tonnes of tiles sitting up in the roof. This excess weight can often cause cracks to the walls of the house, and sags or dips in the gutters or the roofline. Air Roofing will install the appropriate Tie Downs to tie the existing roof structure to the walls, all carried out according to a Structural Engineers specification. Once the old tiles or iron have been removed, many home owners take the opportunity to have insulation, skylights, or roof ventilation installed at the same time to allow year round climate control. Building Blanket insulation (commonly referred to as Anticon) can be fitted on top of the new steel purlins and under the new sheeting to provide considerable cooling during the hot summer months. Your new roof can be expected to last well into this century, providing clean drinking water, the refreshing sound of rain on the roof, no more leaks and good-bye forever to problems associated with excess weight and cracked ridges.
