Why? Read Jeremiah 44:1 through 46:28 “You know you get in trouble when you’re mean to your brother,” Grandma said. “So why do you do it?” Laura shrugged. “I don’t know. Why can’t Ryan just leave me alone?” Exasperated with Laura for dodging the question, Grandma was tempted to keep scolding Laura for her behavior. But what good would it do? The Lord asked the Jews living in Egypt the same question, “Why?” “Why arouse my anger with what your hands have made, burning incense to other gods in Egypt, where you have come to live? You will destroy yourselves... Have you forgotten the wickedness committed by your ancestors?” (Jeremiah 44:8–9). God expects us to learn from history and from our own mistakes. But do we? Do we tend to repeat the same mistakes over and over again? Do we recognize how we grieve our loving Heavenly Father, who would rather reward us than discipline us? He is a righteous God. He cannot overlook sin. Prayer Suggestion: God, help me not to point fingers at others but to honestly examine my own thoughts and actions. Quicklook: Jeremiah 44:1–12
