Why Special Status is not possible for Goa. 1.) The constitution of India guarantees 6 basic Fundamental Rights. It includes right to move anywhere in India and reside, buy property etc. Goa is seeking special status that goes well against the Fundamental right guaranteed by Constitution. Hence the Parliament has to amend the constitution. And mind you, this is no small thing that needs to be amended: It is THE FUNDAMENTAL RIGHT that needs amendment. The very concept of India is under threat by special status. If each and every state start asking and getting special status then we will end up with confederation of Indian Union, where people will be Goans, Maharashtrians , Tamilians, Keralites etc first and Indian second. 2.) Having said that there are certain special status that can be given within the parameters of the constitution and they are basically a.) For financial weak state. b,) Tribal areas where there culture can be endangered by outsiders moving in their land / territory. c.) Hilly areas wherein the ecology can be threatened. Goa can not be classified under any of these three.
