Why all cats should be indoor cats: Traffic is dangerous, and contrary to popular belief, most cats dont have the instinct to avoid roads. Other animals are dangerous. Aside from the obvious fights etc, cats get diseases just like people, you have no control over the other cats yours comes into contact with. Feline AIDS affects 14-29% of cats in Australia. Parasites! If youre cat stays indoors, it will never ever get fleas. Unless a cat with existing fleas comes into your home.The risks of your cat getting worms, mites and other nasties are drastically increased by your kitty being outside. Animal Cruelty, some people just suck and Ive overheard far too many people say theyd run down a cat if they saw one. Poisons and toxins could be in anyones trash, did you know grapes and pine tree needles are among the many things that are toxic to cats? Cats like to hunt, they kill wildlife. Just because your cat doesnt bring you presents doesnt mean they dont hunt, and just because theyre full doesnt mean they wont hunt. They do it for FUN. Your cat doesnt NEED to be outside, if youve got an old cat whod used to going out, then yeah, dont change their life around now. But in future if you get a kitten, keep it inside. How to keep indoor cats happy: Many people think indoor cats are miserable or that its cruel to keep cats inside. Studies have shown that indoor cats live longer, happier, healthier lives. You can even train your cat from a young age to wear a harness so that you can have outside time together. If your cat seems miserable, its probably bored. Provide toys, a cat tree and make sure your cat has a window they can bird watch from, and youll have a safe, happy and healthy cat that will certainly live to be a very old happy cat indeed.
