Why become a Caregiver? Ask any current Caregivers why they do - TopicsExpress

Why become a Caregiver? Ask any current Caregivers why they do it, and the answer is bound to be the same: because it’s one of the most rewarding things a person can do. That said, such reward is always the outcome of caregiving, but never the motivator behind choosing to do it. People become Caregivers because they have a passion for putting others first. Seeing someone with an intellectual disability able to lead a happy, safe and fulfilling life is enough to make it all worthwhile. In essence, it’s about making small changes to your everyday life to make major beneficial changes to someone with an intellectual disability. Seeing them respond to their new environment – and the care and love that shapes it - provokes a feeling that must be experienced to be believed. And there’s simply no reward quite like watching the smile emerge and hearing their laughter. As a Caregiver, you can expect full support from us, including regular visits, telephone calls, a boarding payment to reimburse you for extra costs, and in some cases, discounts on selected household products. You’ll have the opportunity to learn new skills, planning for the person you support, and to undertake training relevant to your role. Most importantly, you’ll have the benefit of knowing you’re making a real difference to someone’s life.
