Why do you walk as though my eyes do not follow? You act as though my voice is empty and hollow Do you think your façade to be flawless; without defect? Maybe the illusion has become real enough and you can no longer detect To the passerby you seem whole and well But I see much deeper than your outer shell You are measured by your outward appearance coupled with laborious effort But I look within; the heart is my report With silent cries and moans your soul calls out My trained ear hears the shout I respond in quietness and comfort; I let nothing go without answer You sidestep my embrace like a choreographed dancer The performance is awe-inspiring to untrained eyes But I see no sparkle in yours. Instead I hear confining lies You’re good at what you do To that I can’t deny But what you do isn’t you And that is why you cry When does it end? When is it over? Are you waiting for a sign?
