Why does the Android app now want permission to read my texts? Android App The new update for the Android app is requesting that it gets new permissions for reading my texts, getting full access to my personal information (including my contact card, my calendar, etc.), and to my network. Why does it need this? Im not granting it permission. Its already too much that the app was already apparently collecting peoples phone numbers without their permission. Im sorry, but no, Facebook, you dont get to read my texts. So why does it need this information? I choose carefully which data I post and what personal information I put into my account. I myself would like to have the liberty to choose which of my personal data may be processed for commercial use. Facebook already knows a lot by cross matching data with your direct contacts. However checking my calendar and text messages, having access to my camera and having the permission to send out e-mails is a total invasion of privacy. Honoustly, none of the reasons mentioned by Facebook suffise to explain this total lack of respect towards their users.
