Why dont religious people recognize the importance of the separation of church and state? They are completely comfortable with their government endorsing THEIR particular religion, but cannot envision what it would be like to have their government endorsing ANOTHER religion. If the pledge were to be changed to Under Allah we Trust, they would lose their minds. Keep in mind, the original pledge did NOT include the Under God language, and only changed, because of Congress. Prayer in school? What if it is 5 prayers to Mecca? Would that be ok? Of course it wouldnt. How about we continue to protect Americans right to practice their religion, but keep the government COMPLETELY neutral, as Thomas Jefferson demanded that we should.
