Why is Obamacare Nullification on Life Support? GREENVILLE, S.C. | JOSHUA COOK | JUNE 4 2013 | While the Obamacare nullification bill is on life support South Carolina family’s across the state continue to suffer from increased healthcare premiums and broken promises. In 2009, Obama pledged that no family making less than 250K will see any form of tax increase, “not your income tax, not your payroll tax, not you capital gains tax, not any of your taxes.” In 2013, we know this was just another lie, and many in the SC Senate are standing against the regressive tax of Obamacare, but not all. Not surprisingly, Obama lied about cutting the cost of healthcare premiums. According to Investor’s Business Daily, “Barack Obama made one very specific promise to voters: He would cut health insurance premiums for families by $2,500, and do so in his first term. But it turns out that family premiums have increased by more than $3,000 since Obama’s vow, according to the latest annual Kaiser Family Foundation employee health benefits survey.” Today Senator Larry Grooms posted on Facebook that the nullification bill H.3101 along with the ethics bill were both on “life support.” It is amazing that Gov. Haley can magically sprinkle her pixie dust on the two chambers of the General Assembly and with lightning speed pass a $120 million incentive deal for Boeing in a matter of hours, but not pass a bill that will save its citizens of an oppressive tax like Obamacare. At this year’s SCGOP Convention, Gov. Nikki Haley told the delegation that “we will not allow Obamacare to enter into our state.” If Gov. Haley means what she says then why is she not pressuring the SC Senate to pass the key legislation that resists Obamacare? The deadline to vote on this bill is this Thursday before the session ends. The stakes are high, but the SC Senate can make history by passing H3101 that will be the only real legislation to resist Obamacare in the Nation. If our state can lead the Nation by resisting Obamacare, it could be a catalytic mechanism that triggers a full repeal of Obamacare. Earlier this year Sen. Tom Davis gave a stern warning to his colleagues if Obamacare nullification fails, “the SC Senate must concur. We’d better be up to the task or heads will roll.” Along with Republican Senators, we expect Gov. Haley to show courage and protect her constituents from the oppressive tax of Obamacare.
