Why is it called the Apostles Creed? It is called the Apostles Creed, not because it was written by the apostles themselves, but because it states briefly the doctrine (teaching) which God gave through the apostles in the Bible. The Creed is trinitarian because the Scriptures reveal God as triune. Christians are baptized in the name of the triune God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Matthew 28:19
