Why is the middle class disappearing? We had a great conversation - TopicsExpress

Why is the middle class disappearing? We had a great conversation about this last night. One man there was pretty angry about school taxes. And I asked him, why is there so much anger at teachers? Because they have pensions and health care while the rest of us were convinced to give up those lifetime benefits we once all had? Why no anger at CEOs who take millions from shareholders and billions in tax welfare subsidies? We talked about the economics of life, my latest theory, which Im still working out before I write it up for a blog. I asked him why he is angry at teachers, police and firefighters who make less to care for all of us, but not angry at paying for the private jet of a CEO and the mansions and yachts our tax dollars subsidize? I tried to explain how the class war works, keeping him pissed off and distracted so he doesnt think too much about what the real problem is, like the NFL being a non-profit and making a billion dollars in a day, or big corporations cutting jobs and small taxes less government gutting programs. Or schools spending millions on athletics, but saying there is no money for pensions. It was a good conversation. One woman there came and listened for a minute, a school teacher, and then walked away saying she was too republican for the conversation, which I thought was one of the funniest things I ever heard. I wanted to ask her if she was going to give up her pension and health care because it was too liberal. But it was a party, so I just let it go. Apparently she doesnt teach logic.
